An Immersion in Groundbreaking Technologies

I started my journey with an online program that provided an overview of the company and its operations. During the online phase, I received reading materials and I had weekly meetings regarding the company, its business units and sustainable energies and green steel, which was my main interest. It was a great way to get familiar with the culture and work ethics of TENOVA, even before starting the actual job.

After successfully completing the online program, I was invited to participate in an intensive week-long on-site internship. This was a golden opportunity for me to get hands-on experience with the company's machinery and processes, and I learned a lot from the experience.

I immersed myself in the realm of renewable energy for steel mills, especially the potential of harnessing clean energy sources to power this energy-intensive industry. This concept challenged conventional norms and ignited my interest in exploring unconventional solutions.

Delving into hydrogen-based reduction, which replaces coal with hydrogen in the blast furnace, resulting in the emission of nothing but water vapor, exemplified the remarkable progress being made in sustainable metallurgy. Another pivotal element of my internship, carbon capture technology, taught me how companies are actively capturing and storing CO2 emissions from steel-making processes, showcasing a proactive approach to mitigating environmental impact.

Lastly, studying biomass-derived carbon as an alternative reducing agent was a testament to the industry's commitment to innovation. This unconventional approach to steel production, using organic materials, epitomized the transformative potential of green steel.

During the internship, I was assigned to work with a team of experienced professionals who guided me through every step of the process. They patiently answered all my questions and helped me understand the importance of teamwork in achieving the company’s goals. I also had the chance to work with various departments and understand how they all fit into the bigger picture.

Overall, my experience with TENOVA was both enriching and fulfilling. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with an engineering company where I could learn not only about doing business and macro and micro economics but also about physics (my passion).  They taught me about the process involving the production of green steel, and more important, about the decarbonization efforts in the industry.

Tenova ignited my curiosity by exposing me to groundbreaking technologies and strategies that are reshaping the steel industry to be more sustainable. It inspired me to seek innovative solutions and sparked a deep passion for eco-conscious engineering and research.

I don’t have words to thank the support and guidance provided by Tenova’s managers and employees.
