I had the privilege of attending the Techint Group’s meetings held in Mexico, that revolved around vital topics that affect society today.
The encounter commenced with a comprehensive discussion on the challenges confronting the steel industry. We delved into the complexities of global competition, fluctuating market demands, and the importance of technological advancements. Recognizing the need for innovation and sustainable practices, participants discussed green steel and emphasized the importance of embracing new technologies and enhancing operational efficiency to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market.
A significant part of our discussions revolved around the future of energy and the pressing need for an energy transition. Participants explored the potential of renewable energy sources and the importance of reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy systems emerged as a key priority, with discussions focusing on the implementation of renewable energy technologies and the role of government policies and incentives.
Understanding the symbiotic relationship between businesses and the communities they operate in, the meetings emphasized the importance of community growth. Participants discussed the significance of corporate social responsibility initiatives, including creating employment opportunities, supporting local businesses, and investing in community development projects. Education was highlighted as a pivotal factor in driving long-term growth, with discussions centered around fostering educational programs, scholarships, and vocational training to empower individuals and uplift communities.
During our visit to the Ternium facilities in Pesqueria, we had the opportunity to witness the social impact of industrial transformation firsthand. The discussions revolved around the implementation of sustainable practices, minimizing environmental footprints, and prioritizing the well-being of employees and surrounding communities. It was inspiring to see how companies were actively engaging in initiatives that aimed to minimize negative impacts and create positive change in the social fabric. The Roberto Rocca technical school is an outstanding example in this trend.
Our program also included talks about the renowned Humanitas hospital and its University. Here, we were introduced to their innovative approach to healthcare and education. The discussions focused on the intersection of medical advancements and education, highlighting the importance of research, collaboration, and community engagement in delivering quality healthcare services and fostering knowledge exchange.
The final segment of the meetings centered around corporate governance and financial perspectives. Discussions revolved around transparent business practices, risk management, and strategic decision-making. Participants shared insights on effective governance structures, ethical considerations, and the significance of financial stability in driving long-term success and sustainability.
The meetings in Mexico provided a remarkable opportunity for me to engage in discussions about the challenges faced by the steel industry, the future of energy, community growth, education, industrial transformation, and corporate governance. These interactions offered valuable insights into the transformative power of sustainable practices, the importance of collaboration with communities, and the role of education in driving positive change. By exploring these diverse topics and visiting significant facilities such as Ternium and the Roberto Rocca school, I gained a deeper understanding of Latin America's industrial landscape and its commitment to responsible and inclusive development. The experiences shared and lessons learned will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on my endeavors towards a sustainable and prosperous future. It was a very enriching experience and I gained important insights that propelled my drive to engineer for the greater good.
